At its current rate of growth the Chinese economy is expected to be one of the two largest economies in the world within the next twenty years. We therefore see the real need in business today to create awareness of this important part of the world, both in language and in culture.
In-company courses in Mandarin will be run under the aegis of Waterloo House College, the Professional and Higher Education Training Division of Waterloo School of English Ltd, and the Meridian Chinese Studies Centre Ltd (MECS).
We are able to offer in-company courses by sending teachers to teach your staff at your own premises or at any place you choose for the lessons. We can also arrange for your staff to attend Waterloo House College
The Waterloo-Meridian Chinese Teaching Programme has a clear goal: the teaching of the Chinese language and Chinese culture in the UK. The Meridian Chinese Studies Centre is using as the basis of its teaching of Chinese, what is known as the Dao of Chinese Grammar. In this context, Dao means the general principles underlying Chinese grammar. In order to teach it quickly and effectively, MECS uses what is called the TDR method (TDR stands for ‘Sky’, ‘Ground’ and ‘People’ in Chinese). It is suitable even for those with a low aptitude for learning foreign languages. TDR books adopt Chinese traditional philosophies and culture as the keys for decoding the roots of grammar. By using this method, the cultural barriers can be reduced greatly and even students at elementary level can communicate effectively in Mandarin with Chinese native speakers.
Sixty hours of participation in the TDR course can be enough to grasp the fundamental grammatical concepts and to read 80% of the most frequently used Chinese characters. The courses are customised for each company’s specific requirements.
The TDR approach also has a unique teaching team - for each of our courses we can provide at least one or two tutors to assist the main teacher and increase the opportunities for language practice.
The TDR in-company training courses can, as an option, include lectures by specialists from well-known universities on aspects of Chinese culture, literature, economy, society, politics and history. Further details are available on request from the Waterloo House College Office.
