What is ACCA and what qualifications does it offer?

ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) is the largest and fastest-growing global professional accountancy body with 296,000 students and 115,000 members in 170 countries. It aims to offer first choice qualifications to people of application, ability and ambition around the world who seek a rewarding career in accountancy, finance and management.

ACCA offers a range of core qualifications:

  • Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) qualification to prepare you for a career as an accounting technician
  • ACCA Qualification which will help you reach the highest levels in accounting and finance
  • BSc in Applied Accounting awarded by Oxford Brookes University
  • MBA awarded by Oxford Brookes University

Exams & study
You will need to complete 14 papers in total. A maximum of nine papers in the Fundamentals level are available for exemption.

Entry requirements

The Minimum entry requirements for ACCA are normally two A Levels and three GCSEs or equivalent in five separate subjects, including English and Mathematics.

However, Waterloo House College can also offer the Mature Student Entry Route (MSER) and the ACCA conditions for this are as follows:

  • You must be normally over age 21
  • No academic qualifications required
  • However, you must pass the equivalent of Papers F2, Management Accounting and F3, Financial Accounting within two years before further progression to the ACCA exams is permitted.

How to get the ACCA qualification

  • Register as a student with ACCA
  • Register to sit specific exams with ACCA (you will be sent an exam entry form once you have registered with ACCA)

The Oxford Brookes University BSc (Honours) in Applied Accounting with ACCA qualification

This degree is highly regarded and based on practical, professional, employer-driven accounting requirements. It is an exclusive Degree offered to ACCA students through a unique and innovative collaboration between ACCA and Oxford Brookes University Business School. It has been jointly designed by the University and ACCA to meet the requirements of a degree and also those of a professional qualification. Students of ACCA are now automatically registered for the Oxford Brookes University degree when they enrol with ACCA.

If you are eligible and have opted into the scheme and have passed the first nine papers of the ACCA examinations, you may submit a Research and Analysis Project to Oxford Brookes University which is then marked by the University. If this Project is passed then the degree is awarded. You must submit your Project to Oxford Brookes within ten years after the date of your initial registration with ACCA.
